Building 429 Gerrells Performing Arts Centre

February 25, 2009 – 10:39 am

The Christian Pop-rock trio Building 429 will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Centre and the community is invited to attend, said a concert organizer.
“They are so good. They were in Carlsbad last year for a show and said they really liked the energy of the crowd. So, they decided to come back,” said Zack Palen, concert organizer and youth director for Loving Baptist Church.

The trio is kicking off the first leg of their “Truth, Hope & Love” tour in Carlsbad, Palen said. Joining the trio will be special guests Mile 7, Above the Golden State and the new female group, Kimber Rising.

Palen said that in an effort to make the event more “family friendly,” there will be a fun-zone set up outside the venue at 4 p.m.

“There are going to be inflatable slides and bouncy houses and stuff like that so that more people can take advantage of the event,” he said. “That part is free.”

Building 429 has released four albums, and their song, “Glory Defined,” was named BMI’s Christian Song of the Year in 2005. That same year, the Gospel Music Association named the group “New Artist of the Year.” They have toured with artists like Toby Mac, Family Force 5, Casting Crowns and Thousand Foot Krutch.

Palen said he was excited to see the group perform and said concertgoers could expect a great time. He said he expects to see the 2,000-seat venue sold out.

“Last year, we had about 1,700 people attend the concert, and right now it’s looking really good,” he said.
Building 429 isn’t the only Christian group coming to Carlsbad in March. The group Kutless will be in town March 10. Palen said that “combo” tickets are being sold for those wanting to attend both concerts.

The concert is sponsored by the non-denominational organization Fireproof. The organization started when Loving Baptist Church, in partnership with other churches around Carlsbad, wanted to bring “positive music and a positive message” to community youth, Palen said.

He said he thinks Christian artists like coming to Carlsbad because of the crowds, and he expects many to travel from as far as Albuquerque, El Paso and Midland, Texas.

“They are so interactive,” he said. “They love the energy and how the crowd responds. We have some good churches with some good people who are looking to make a difference.”

Advance tickets can be purchased for $10 at the Divine Cottage, 1314 S. Canal St. Tickets will be $15 at the door. Combination tickets for both the Building 429 and Kutless concerts can be purchased for $15 in advance.

Doors for the Building 429 concert open at 5 p.m.
