Dove Awards ceremony Sanctus Real

April 22, 2007 – 11:47 am

A small contingent from Toledo will be sitting, probably on pins and needles, in Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry Thursday night when the Gospel Music Association presents its 38th annual Dove Awards ceremony.

Toledo band Sanctus Real is nominated in two categories, Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year, for the album “The Face of Love,” and Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for the single “I’m Not Alright.”
The four members of Sanctus Real - Chris Rohman, Matt Hammitt, Mark Graalman, and Dan Gartley - will be attending the Dove Awards ceremony, as will some of their family members.
In 2005, Sanctus became the first and only Toledo artists to win a Dove Award for “Fight the Tide,” their sophomore release on Sparrow Records. (Mr. Hammitt won a Dove in 2004 for contributing as a solo artist to a rock opera called !Hero.)
Sanctus Real is facing some tough competition this time, including Jars of Clay, Stellar Kart, and Nashville buzz band Leeland who are all nominated in the same two categories.
Among the artists scheduled to perform at the Doves are Kirk Franklin, the Crabb Family, TobyMac, Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Mac Powell of Third Day.
The awards ceremony will not be broadcast live. The exclusive local provider is WLMB-TV, Channel 40, which will show the event from 9 to 11 p.m. on May 16
