LifeLight Christian music festival

March 26, 2009 – 10:30 am
LifeLight , the outdoor Christian music festival that draws thousands to Sioux Falls each fall, brings the music to fans each spring. Starting this week, three national bands are performing in cities throughout the region. Day of Fire, John Reuben and Willet opened in Watertown on Wednesday for the first of 12 shows on a five-state tour. "Fans tell us they appreciate this, bringing great music to them instead of having to travel to a larger city," says Rob Kurtenbach, LifeLight's tour and concert director. Day of Fire has played across the United States and in Germany, Sweden, South America, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere overseas. Day of Fire's 2004 self-titled debut album featured hits such as "Cornerstone" (No. 1 at Christian Rock radio) and "Detainer." The album was produced by Scott Humphrey, who has worked with Metallica and Rob Zombie. It won a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year and was ...

Band Bluetree Tops Christian Charts

March 14, 2009 – 1:32 pm
The debut album of Irish worship band Bluetree hit No. 1 on the Christian Retail and Praise & Worship charts for a second consecutive week and moved up 12 positions on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart. “ Since writing ‘ God Of This City ’, the band’s momentum has been nothing but fast and furious,” remarked Gospel Music Channel, referring to the hit song that vaulted the band into international popularity. God Of This City, the album, was first released in September 2007 and picked up late January 2008 by Fierce! Records for U.K. distribution. It debuted in the United States on Mar. 3, and went No. 1 on the Christian Retail and Praise & Worship charts shortly after. “What makes this really incredible is that these figures are for the 2 weeks prior to the general release,” the five-man group reported after it snagged the top spots last week. ...

RED

March 12, 2009 – 3:13 pm
The band RED may not ring a bell to the average music listener. They’re not flashy nor do they use strange gimmicks to garner attention. The group, who started off in the Christian music scene, has now crossed the proverbial mainstream line and are beginning to get the attention they deserve. “For our purpose, we just wanted to be honest on who we were,” said guitarist Jasen Rauch. “So the fact that we were Christians, those things we were writing about were coming from that perspective and influence. We didn’t want to be boastful or preachy.” It started some seven years ago when Rauch met vocalist Michael Barnes and a set of twins — Anthony and Randy Armstrong. They all set their sites on Nashville - not as country musicians, but a place to set up shop. Rauch said they all became roommates for a year or so and then the music became ...

RED heads out this spring in support of the album with radio-rock act Trapt; their next hometown stop is in June, for "worship & rock & roll music camp" Camp Electric.

Christian metal core band Haste

February 19, 2009 – 4:40 pm
Dreamer ,the new album by the Christian metal core band Haste the Day, is about the fall of man. The record is not specifically about that incident depicted in the book of Genesis, in which Satan took the form of a snake and persuaded Eve to disobey God — although mankind’s eternal battle against evil is traced back to that day. Instead, Stephen Keech, the Indianapolis-based band’s lead singer, says that “Dreamer” is about the struggle to avoid falling into sin and faithlessness. In a way, “Dreamer” is autobiographical in that Keech faced a crisis of faith when guitarist Jason Barnes was asked to leave the band after becoming an atheist, Keech said. Barnes’ decision to leave the faith of his youth had a profound impact on each of the members, Keech says. “It was just a hard time for all of us to see such a close friend as Jason (decide that he ...
